Boerboel care from our farm.
A large, powerful breed does best with daily work, a lean body, and calm leadership.
Exercise
- Adults need about 1.5 to 2 hours of structured exercise a day.
- Long walks, a secure yard, hiking, and swimming are ideal.
- Under 12 months: short, controlled play only. Avoid jumping and hard-surface running.
- Mental work matters: training, puzzle toys, and scent games.
Feeding
- Use a high-quality large or giant-breed formula.
- 8–12 weeks: 3–4 meals a day. After 6 months: two meals a day.
- Keep them lean. Extra weight punishes joints.
Grooming
- Brush the short coat 1–2 times a week.
- Bathe every 6–8 weeks, or when they are actually dirty.
- Trim nails monthly. Clean ears weekly. Wipe the face daily.
Puppy training
- Start the day they come home. Keep sessions to 5–10 minutes.
- Sit, stay, come, leave it, and place.
- Socialize hard between 8 and 16 weeks.
- Teach leash manners early. An adult Boerboel is very strong.
